A beardless Michael Phelps conducted a Facebook Live session Saturday afternoon from the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, fielding questions from his fans.

One question, obviously, was why he shaved his beard. The answer: A cover photo shoot for an unnamed publication. “I feel 10 years younger, maybe more,” he said, rubbing his recently shorn chin.

Other tidbits revealed during the session:

The coolest place he’s ever swam: “It’s hard to pick one, because there are so many cool places in the world to swim. Athens was awesome because it was outside, but Sydney I think was the coolest because of the passion they have for swimming down there. It’s amazing how crazy, crazy loud the fans are in Australia.”

That question led someone to ask if he has remained in contact with Australian Olympic champion Ian Thorpe. “I still keep in touch with Thorpe,” Phelps said. “He has been a good friend my whole career.”

Where his 22 Olympic medals are kept: “My medals are in a verrry secret place,” he said with a smile. “Only two people know where they are.”
