The USA Fencing men’s and women’s saber teams are in Seoul, South Korea, for a grand prix tournament Friday and Saturday. The tournament is the final international qualifier prior to the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games.

Daryl Homer, a 2012 Olympian, has already qualified for Rio, and Eli Dershwitz and Jeff Spear, a 2012 Olympian, will be out to secure spots on the U.S. Olympic Team in Seoul. Dershwitz enters the competition as the second-highest American in qualification points behind Homer.

The U.S. men’s saber team is ranked No. 1 in the world, but team competition will not be held in the Rio Games. Also in the competition is 2015 world team member Peter Souders.

The United States will be the top seed in the world team championships, which are scheduled for April 25-27 in Rio.

Two-time Olympic champion Mariel Zagunis, 2012 Olympian Dagmara Wozniak and Ibtihaj Muhammad have already qualified for individual and team women’s events in Rio. The replacement athlete for the team will be determined by the results in Seoul and also the upcoming USA Fencing National Championships in Richmond, Virginia.

Going after the replacement spot are Sage Palmedo, Monica Aksamit and Eliza Stone.
