Four-time Olympian Serena Williams has announced her engagement to Alexis Ohanian, a co-founder of Reddit. Appropriately, the first word of the couple’s happy news was through the social news aggregation site.
A four-time Olympic champion, Williams, 35, will wed Ohanian, 33, who was recognized as a “champion of innovation” in 2013 in the 20th anniversary issue of Wired magazine. The couple first was reported to be dating in October 2015. Ohanian proposed while on vacation in Rome.
Ohanian, along with Steve Huffman, co-founded Reddit in 2005, the same year Ohanian graduated from the University of Virginia with degrees in commerce and history. He also has launched travel search website Hipmunk and social enterprise site Breadpig, an “uncorporation” designed to give its profits to charity.
Williams will be heading to Australia next month in search of her seventh Australian Open title. A victory would give her 23 Grand Slam crowns, surpassing the Open Era record of 22 she currently shares with Steffi Graf. She holds four Olympic gold medals, including the London 2012 singles championship and doubles titles with sister Venus from 2000, 2008 and 2012.
