
"My Focus" is a weekly photo series in which TeamUSA.org (and @TeamUSA on Instagram) takes fans behind the scenes with some of the top Olympic and Paralympic athletes and hopefuls. Fans can get a glimpse into a day in the life of an athlete and see the hard work, dedication and sacrifice that is required on a daily basis to represent Team USA. In the third installment, follow modern pentathlete Samantha Achterberg as she trains at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
1) Hitting The Trails
Team USA modern pentathlete Samantha Achterberg runs several times per week and averages about five miles per run.
2) Think Fast!
As part of her training, Achterberg throws a ball against a wall to practice her reflexes.
3) Just Keep Swimming

4) Hit Me With Your Best Shot

5) Fancy Footwork
Achterberg skips through a ladders drill. This exercise helps keep her quick on her feet for the fencing portion of her sport.
6) Treat Yourself
Achterberg receives treatment in the sports medicine office at the OTC. She often sees a physical therapist to correct anything that is not properly aligned in her body.
7) Time To Refuel
After her five-and-a-half-mile run, Achterberg prepares a protein shake in her room at the OTC.
8) Lunch Break
Achterberg grabs lunch at the dining hall between workouts.
9) Eating Right
Achterberg eats balanced meals throughout the day to ensure she is replenishing her body with the nutrients she needs.
10) Rest And Relaxation
Achterberg relaxes in her room prior to attending a yoga class.
11) Namaste
Achterberg attends a weekly yoga class at the OTC with other Team USA athletes.
