Team USA competes at the 2015 IFAF World Championships on July 24, 2015 in Canton, Ohio.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The U.S. Olympic Committee added USA Football to its formal list of recognized sports organization for all forms of American football.

Monday's announcement means USA Football will have a seat on the multi-sport organization council, a group that includes the NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations.

USA Football has implemented coaching education programs to help make the sport safer at the youth, high school and amateur level and sanctions a national team program that began in 2007.

The Indianapolis-based organization has formal partnerships with seven college football conferences and more than 1,100 high schools.
