On The Lighter Side: May 29-June 4

By Jamie MacDonald | June 05, 2015, 2:50 a.m. (ET)

If we've learned anything with increased coverage, we've learned that Team USA's athletes and teams aren't leading dull lives. Whether it's training or goofing around, eating right or oh-so-wrong (for a treat, of course), supporting friends or celebrating victory, they've allowed us a window to their sporting souls. Each week we'll catch you up on some of the lighter moments that make Team USA so compelling.

Oh, Canada

At long last, teams competing in the FIFA Women's World Cup have arrived in Canada. Six different cities will host matches across the vast country, with Team USA opening in Winnipeg on Monday against Australia. Last-minute preparations had been taking place (Abby Wambach went for a new hair color, for instance), good luck messages had been pouring in, including a request from USA Bobsled and Skeleton to "Make sure to share lots of pictures with us!" and a message from Landon Donovan.

But few were more inspired than this one from one Team USA, the U.S. Women's National Hockey Team, to another:

Pretty solid celebration options in there for Team USA members looking for cele inspiration.

For their trip to Canada, Team USA headed north in style, boarding their charter:

Welp... Let's go get this!!! #WWC

… And touching down.

Ride Of A Lifetime

It was only a few weeks ago that five-time Olympic medalist Missy Franklin lifted the social media ban she had imposed upon herself, and one of her first posts afterward recognized the Memorial Day holiday. A few days later, this:

Roger That

Trivia question: What is snowboarding star and two-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White's middle name? It's Roger, his father's name, and it's worth noting on Mondays when a #RogerMondays mood strikes the Artist Formerly Known As The Flying Tomato.

Roger appears to be a bit of a free spirit himself, and he clearly isn't uncomfortable around power tools — in the backyard or within sawdust-throwing distance of his son's Lambo.

When In Rome …

While traveling in Rome this past week, Team USA bobsled pilot Jazmine Fenlator managed to find a little bit of the familiar: ice. And she made the most of the unique encounter.

Where There's A Hill, There's A Way

Slalom skiing star and 2014 Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin, another winter athlete who sought out some downtime, could be found in Hawaii, vacationing with her parents for their anniversary.

And, because it's Shiffrin, there might as well be a mountain involved. In this case, Haleakala stuns, as it often does, even through the fog.

Woohoo 3,000 vert! Haleakala is amazing... Even when you can't see anything 😋😉💪🏼👊🏼🚴🏻

Bulldog Day

Game 1 of the NBA Finals is in the books, with the Golden State Warriors taking a 1-0 series lead with an overtime win over three-time Olympian LeBron James' Cleveland Cavaliers. NBA analyst and 1996 Olympian Reggie Miller offered a quick preview from the saddle of his mountain bike.

Nice effort on the Bulldog Loop, Reg.

Upgrade

Two days after asking for some car advice, 2012 Olympic beach volleyball silver medalist April Ross rolled in with a new ride.

Getting Their Kicks

A pair of 2008 U.S. Olympic Men's Soccer Team players, Stuart Holden and Donovan, have teamed up to begin a new soccer venture. To kick things off, they shot a video that did not end well.

Reunited

Nothing like a reunion to bring out the smiles in even the most intense athletes. At the London 2012 Olympic Games, the U.S. Women's Water Polo Team topped Spain, 8-5, to win Team USA's first gold medal in the event. Goalkeeper Betsey Armstrong summed up the team's three-year reunion thusly:
