COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The United States Olympic Committee today announced Team USA’s Road to Rio video series presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance and hosted by Olympic silver medalist Tanith Belbin White. The TeamUSA.org series takes fans on the Road to Rio, providing updates and exclusive athlete interviews from around the country during the lead up to the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The series will feature more than 30 episodes with a new episode airing on alternating Tuesdays. The first two episodes have aired and in episode one – which launched last week – White shows fans around the first stop of the Road to Rio Tour in Philadelphia. She gets up close and personal with fellow Team USA athletes as they train for Rio, and gets pointers on the long jump from nine-time Olympic champion Carl Lewis. The second episode catches up with the U.S. women’s field hockey team and its quest for the Rio Games.
Upcoming episodes showcase the U.S. Women’s Field Hockey Team on its journey to qualify for the Rio Games, including taking on rivals such as Argentina at the 2015 Pan American Games this July, where eight international teams will battle for 2016 Olympic qualification. White also gives fans exclusive looks at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center, the U.S. Rowing Teams, U.S. BMX athletes, U.S. Paralympic track and field athletes, and future stops along the Road to Rio Tour.
“Team USA’s Road to Rio is a fun, entertaining way for fans to get to know athletes from all sports as they prepare for the Rio Games,” White said. “I’m excited to follow the tour to its incredible cities, each with their own rich Olympic history, and to other stops along our athletes’ journeys to the Games. The series will definitely get fans excited for the 2016 Games in Rio.”
White is no stranger to what it takes to train for the Olympic Games. She won the silver medal in ice dancing at the Torino 2006 Games with partner Ben Agosto. The team won four medals at the World Championships from 2005-2009 and five national titles. Since retiring, she’s worked as a commentator for NBC Sports, Universal Sports Network, IceNetwork.com and now TeamUSA.org.
The Road to Rio Tour presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance is a 10-stop tour circling the country in 2015 and 2016, bringing the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to Team USA fans. The first stop was in Philadelphia on July 4, and fans enjoyed interactive sport participation, virtual-reality experiences, athlete meet and greets, and sponsor engagements.
“We are excited to support Team USA through our presenting sponsorship of the Road to Rio Tour and the Road to Rio video series,” said John Cusolito, vice president of external relations at Liberty Mutual Insurance. “These videos will excite fans about our U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes as they prepare to showcase their very best to the world in Rio next summer.”
The tour will make two more stops in 2015 and seven in 2016 leading up to the Rio Games. All Road to Rio Tour stops are free and open to the public. For more information, visit TeamUSA.org/RoadToRio.
