Two-time Olympian Heather Richardson and 2014 Olympian Brittany Bowe made U.S. history by finishing one-two in the women’s 500-meter race at the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships earlier this month.
They’ll chase after a similar finish this weekend in Astana, Kazakhstan, in the World Sprint Speedskating Championships. The competition, which features women’s and men’s races at 500 and 1,000 meters, determines the fastest sprint skaters in the world.
Also among the U.S. skaters is two-time Olympic champion Shani Davis, who won the men’s 1,000-meter race at the World Single Distances Championships.
All six U.S. skaters in the competition are 2014 Olympians. Joining Richardson and Bowe in the women’s races is Sugar Todd. Mitch Whitmore and Jonathan Garcia join Davis in the men’s races.
Richardson won the sprint championship in 2013, and Davis is a three-time world sprint medalist.
