The third annual Gold Meets Golden event in Los Angeles once again brought together Team USA athletes and actors to support an important cause. This year’s benefitting organization, the Special Olympics, had extra meaning and poignancy with the 2015 Special Olympics World Games happening this summer in LA.
Olympic gymnasts Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner, and diver Greg Louganis hosted the event in conjunction with actress Nicole Kidman and others, while Olympians and Paralympians such as Gracie Gold, April Holmes, Lolo Jones, Mark Spitz and dozens of others attended, along Hollywood legends Katie Holmes, Gina Rodriguez, Matt Bomer and Maria Shriver to shine a spotlight on the Special Olympians during Oscar weekend.
In just six months, 7,000 Special Olympics athletes from 177 countries will be living out their dreams at the Special Olympics World Games. I went behind the scenes for Team USA to hear from all the stars in attendance about why the Special Olympics are so important.
