TORONTO – U.S. Paralympics, a division of the United States Olympic Committee, announced today that Christina Schwab (Dane, Wisconsin) has been selected as the flag bearer for the U.S. Parapan American Team at the Closing Ceremony for the 2015 Parapan American Games on August 15. Schwab was voted by representatives from various sports across Team USA.
“It’s a huge honor to be elected by Team USA to carry our flag and lead everyone in to the Closing Ceremony,” Schwab said. “It’s going to be an amazing and unforgettable experience.”
Schwab has enjoyed an illustrious Paralympic career, competing at four Paralympic Games in wheelchair basketball and taking home gold twice in 2004 and 2008. In her 15 years wearing red, white and blue, Schwab also represented Team USA on the track at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, racing in the 400-meter, 800, 5,000 and women’s marathon. Toronto marks the second Parapan Am Games for Schwab after competing in the first Parapan Ams in Mexico City.
“Every time I come to any Games whether it be the Paralympic Games or Parapan Ams, they all mean something different but the significance never waivers. The sense of pride you get putting on that uniform with ‘USA’ across your chest to represent your whole country and family is incredible and everlasting.”
Christina Schwab will carry the stars and stripes as she leads the 239-member U.S. team during the Closing Ceremony on August 15 at Nathan Phillips Square. The Closing Ceremony will officially mark the end of the 2015 Parapan American Games.
