At long last, we have arrived at the College Football Playoff, with the semifinals taking place on New Year's Day. And, as we have all season long, we're checking in with a few prominent alums with serious rooting interests in the games. At 8:30 p.m. ET on Jan. 1, 2015, the nation's No. 4 and 1 teams, Ohio State and Alabama, will square off in the Sugar Bowl, so we asked Olympians Terin Humphrey and Amanda Furrer who will prevail in the matchup of their alma maters.

What does it mean to alums that your alma mater made it this far?
To me, alumni, Alabama fans and to champions, making it this far is not an option. It is a way of life. Alabama is expected to be the best team out in the arena/field/track/stadium every year no matter what discipline you participate in. So it doesn't surprise me that we are once again at the top, that's where Alabama belongs.
What intrigues you the most about the matchup?
On a personal note, what intrigued me most about the Ohio State vs. Alabama game is that I have some friends who graduated from Ohio State (one of whom was in the Olympics with me) and they believe that their team is the best. Selfishly, I know better! So I just can't wait to prove to Ohio State fans that we will once again be on top!
What are you most looking forward to about the game?
This is a little crazy, but what I am looking forward to the most about the game is all the opinions on social media! I just love listening to the pride and respect that my fellow Alabama alumni have. Even when we have lost in the past, Alabama fans are all about support and sportsmanship.
Final score prediction?
As always, I never give score predictions. I just know that Alabama always has a way of fighting until we win! Roll Tide!
Why do you think that team will win?
I think Alabama will win because they play with passion and heart. They are there to play for one of the top schools in the nation and actions speak louder than words!
Who will be the game’s biggest star?
In a team sport, there is not a biggest star. They play as a team and they win and lose as a team. Sure, there are players that stand out, but if one fails they all fail! SEC fan always! Roll Tide!

What does it mean to alums that your alma mater made it this far?
It's really exciting to see the Buckeyes made it into the first-ever college playoff system. The prestige of the program is deep-rooted so it really isn't a surprise to see them at the top. Ohio State became a home for me in my time at school and I will forever be a fan and supporter. The university, athletic department and my fellow athletes were unbelievably supportive of me when I trained for and competed at the Olympics, so it’s always fun to do the same for them and cheer them on at big events!
What intrigues you the most about the matchup?
I think the Alabama vs. Ohio State game has been something people have wanted to see for a while. The Big Ten and SEC are two power conferences, and the coaches have coached against each other for a while now, so the rivalry is exciting!
What are you most looking forward to about the game?
I’m really looking forward to Ohio State coming out on top and just a great football game overall. I think it’s going to be a close one!
Final score prediction?
My score prediction is Ohio State 31 and Alabama 28. If not those exact numbers, then I’m guessing the score will be within a five-point range.
Why do you think that team will win?
Of course I think Ohio State will win, that’s what Buckeyes do! I would expect nothing less.
Who will be the game’s biggest star?
I think there are two possibilities for biggest star of the game. First is Cardale Jones. He is our third-string quarterback, but, honestly, he could be starting at most other schools. He's been waiting his turn for this. He proved himself in the Big Ten and now it’s his turn to prove himself in the playoff system. The second possibility is Ezekiel Elliott. I think the running game is going to be important for opening passes for Cardale. I'm looking forward to a solid game! Go Bucks!
