The United States national synchronized swimming team takes its first shot at qualifying for the 2012 Olympics when it competes at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, Oct. 14-30.  

The 2011 U.S. Pan American synchronized swimming team includes: Morgan Fuller (Sunnyvale, Calif.), Megan Hansley (New Canaan, Conn.), Mary Killman (McKinney, Texas), Maria Koroleva (Concord, Calif.), Michelle Moore (Tonawanda, N.Y.), team captain Leah Pinette (Bristol, Conn.), Lyssa Wallace (San Antonio, Texas), Katy Wiita (Vancouver, Wash.) and Alison Williams (Northridge, Calif.).

Killman, USA Synchro's athlete of the year for the second consecutive year, and Koroleva will also team up in the duet event.

The national team moved to Indianapolis in the early part of 2011 in order to train together full time under the direction of new coach Mayuko "Mayu" Fujiki,who was hired in January 2011.  

Fujiki, a 1996 Olympic bronze medalist for Japan, led the 2010 Spanish national team to an overall gold medal finish, topping synchro powerhouse Russia at the FINA World Trophy.  

"I'm excited about competing at the Pan American Games," Fujiki said. "I have seen a marked improvement in the team since the World Championships in July."

The team trained at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., in September to get used to the higher elevations of Guadalajara.

"They've been training really hard at the Olympic Training Center, and we're ready to go," said Sandra Mahoney, national team director. "What Mayu has done with this team in nine months has been phenomenal."

The synchronized swimming competition is Oct. 18-21 and will include both the team and duet events. The competition schedule is as follows:

Oct. 18: Duet technical routine
Oct. 19: Team technical routine
Oct. 20: Duet free routine
Oct. 21: Team free routine

 The winning team at the 2011 Pan American Games qualifies for the London Olympic Games next year. There will also be a Synchronized Swimming Olympic Qualification Tournament in London on April 18-22, 2012.

The 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for synchronized swimming will take place Nov. 10-14 in Greensboro, N.C.
