SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) Police in the Dominican Republic say that a former Olympic wrestler has been shot to death after he tried to prevent his cousin from being robbed inside an electronics store.

Police say 31-year-old Wilson Santiago Rojas Nova died en route to the hospital. They say he leaves behind seven children, one of them just five days old. He was expected to compete in the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games.

Dominican Olympic Committee President Luis Mejia said Thursday that his death is a great loss for the country.

No one has been arrested in Tuesday's killing.
