Aug. 16, 2014

Hi everyone,

This evening Team USA went to the Opening Ceremony and the 2014 Youth Olympic Games have officially begun! Everyone on Team USA looked great in our Opening Ceremony outfits, and Kendall Yount did a fantastic job as our flag bearer, braving the rain and representing us perfectly!

The Nanjing Organizing Committee, the performers and the hundreds of volunteers did an amazing job combining tradition and culture, putting on a fantastically entertaining performance consisting of astronomy, metal working, ribbon dance and even a human chandelier. The stadium was filled with thousands of spectators and athletes, who could probably be heard all the way in Beijing from the noise clappers that were awaiting every attendee at his or her seat.

Tomorrow marks the first day of competition, with Team USA competing in fencing, swimming, triathlon, gymnastics, rugby, beach volleyball, rowing, judo, tennis and table tennis. We’ll be out there cheering them on, and we hope you all can join us cheering back home at Olympic.TV or on NBC.

Hope everyone is doing well and stay tuned for tomorrow’s update!

Go Team USA!
