Our Commitment to Mental Health

As part of our mission, the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) is committed to promoting sustained well-being for Team USA athletes. More than ever, it is critical that the USOPC empower those who are in need to seek mental health assistance, while proactively delivering mental health resources and services.

At the USOPC, we believe that competitive excellence and well-being work hand in hand, and at their best, reinforce one another. That is why we created the athlete services division in February 2019, to advance the support and resources available to Team USA athletes – specifically in the areas of athlete safety, mental health, wellness, and career and education. The new structure moved oversight of sports medicine and mental health to the athlete services division, creating separation between the people who support athlete wellness and those dedicated to athlete performance.

With guidance from our dedicated team of medical and sport psychologists, our external Mental Health Taskforce and Mental Health Officers, and collaboration with other industry leaders and sport organizations, the USOPC strives to be a trusted resource in this area.

Together, the Team USA community is raising awareness around mental health, educating athletes – and our broader U.S. Olympic and Paralympic community – on available resources and empowering those in need to seek assistance.

USOPC Services for Athletes

Welcome to the United States Olympic & Paralympic Mental Health Registry. Search for highly qualified, licensed mental health providers – including social workers, professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists – who have experience working with elite athletes. Providers in the registry have completed a background screening, as well as training from the U.S. Center for SafeSport and U.S. Anti-doping Agency or the World Antidoping Agency.

Mental health providers are available across the country in the states where you are located and can connect with you through telemedicine. Please follow the link below to search for providers by state or by expertise:

Mental Health Registry Dashboard

Connect with the provider directly to schedule an appointment and be sure to inform them you are a Team USA athlete. Some providers accept insurance while others may not. This will be noted on the dashboard. All billing is to be arranged between the athlete and the provider.

Your feedback is important to us as we look to continually improve the services available to athletes. We kindly ask for any feedback you can provide through our secure and anonymous survey. This may include specific feedback, concerns or suggestions regarding the process, the provider, or any other registry-related comments. All responses will be reviewed within 48 hours.

Please contact our Director, Mental Health Services, Dr. Jessica Bartley at jessica.bartley@usopc.org with any questions.

As we wrap up our contract with ComPsych, the USOPC has created a new partnership with eHome Counseling Group - a nationwide virtual counseling network that provides empirically-based mental health treatment anytime and anywhere with the highest quality licensed mental health providers on a convenient, confidential, and integrated platform. Get started by visiting ehcmp.com/teamusa.

eHome accepts health insurance and USOPC Mental Health Services will pay for any expenses outside of insurance. Contact mentalhealth@usopc.org for assistance with co-pays and deductibles if applicable.
The USOPC has contracted with a nationwide call center to create a confidential mental health support line that will be available to Team USA domestically and internationally 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Calling +1-719-866-CALL (or 2255) will connect Team USA athletes immediately to a licensed mental health provider who can assist in the management of mental health crises or provide resources related to mental health and wellness anywhere in the world. If necessary, Team USA athletes can also request follow-up from a USOPC Mental Health provider through this support line.
The USOPC has also acquired the WellTrack™ app for Team USA athletes. The WellTrack™ app provides athletes with a suite of online tools and courses that incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help identify, understand, and address their mental health. This app also connects directly to the Team USA mental health support line to manage mental health crises and/or provide mental health resources. The WellTrack™ app can be downloaded from the App Store and email Director, USOPC Mental Health Services, Dr. Jessica Bartley at jessica.bartley@usopc.org for the password.

Intel is supporting Team USA athletes during this unprecedented time by providing athletes access to tools that will help address the challenges created by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Through this service, Team USA athletes have access to hundreds of resources for focus, sleep, movement and more, including content designed for recovery, competition, training and motivation through Headspace Plus – a meditation and sleep app used by over 66 million people and clinically proven to reduce stress, improve happiness and increase focus.

For Team USA athletes who are interested in accessing a Headspace membership, contact athleteservices@usopc.org.

USOPC Mental Health Services has hired five full-time licensed mental health providers to serve the mental health needs of Team USA athletes and staff. Meet our providers at Our Team page.

Team USA athletes – and the coaches, officials and administrators who serve them – have access to an external Mental Health Taskforce in support to address mental health concerns and promote sustained and holistic well-being throughout their complete athlete journey.

The 13-member taskforce is comprised of U.S. Olympians, Paralympians, coaches, medical and mental health professionals who are charged with developing best practices, resources and action plans to support the mental health needs of Team USA athletes – before, during and after competition – and advise USOPC staff who frequently engage with athletes, on and off the field of play. The group was organized in February 2020 and meets on a monthly basis with additional touch points, as needed.
