USA Wrapup for February 18

Team USA made history once again on Thursday. Evan Lysacek became the first American figure skater to win men’s gold since Brian Boitano at the Calgary 1988 Olympic Winter Games.

Alpine skier Julia Mancuso became the first U.S. woman to win three Olympic medals in alpine skiing, the fifth female U.S. alpine skier to win multiple medals in the Olympic Winter Games, and the first since Jean Saubert at the 1964 Innsbruck Olympic Winter Games. Lindsey Vonn led the downhill portion but fell midway down the course and did not finish.

Other Americans on the podium Thursday were snowboarders Hannah Teter and Kelly Clark. Teter captured silver and Clark snagged bronze in the women’s halfpipe.

The men’s and women’s hockey teams sailed past their competition with the men defeating Norway, 6-1, and the women shutting out Finland, 6-0. Natalie Darwitz scored a goal and added two assists to set an American record for most points scored in an Olympic tournament with 11.
