USA Daily for Saturday, February 13

Apolo Anton Ohno’s bid for his sixth medal highlights the first full day of Olympic competition on Saturday with the men’s 1500m finals. Ohno is currently tied with Eric Heiden for most medals won by an American man and one away from Bonnie Blair’s record for most medals won by a U.S. athlete at the Olympic Winter Games. Members of the U.S. Ski Team also make their first runs for gold – the men’s alpine team competes in the downhill in Whistler, and the women’s moguls freestyle ski team, anchored by a trio of Olympic veterans in Shannon Bahrke, Hannah Kearney and Michelle Roark, will be on the slopes at Cypress Mountain. Women’s biathlon – the 7.5 km sprint – and ski jumping medals will also be awarded on Day 1. All three U.S. ski jumpers qualified for Saturday’s competition.
