Team USA currently has won 24 medals (seven gold, seven silver and 10 bronze) at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. That total is one shy of the 25 medals won at the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games (nine gold, nine silver and seven bronze). With two more medals, the United States will set a record for most medals won at an Olympic Winter Games not held on US soil. The most medals ever received by the US in an Olympic Winter Games was 34, won in the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Winter Games.

With the women’s ice hockey team assured no worse than a silver medal by virtue of its semifinal victory over Sweden earlier today, the US is guaranteed to match its output from 2006.

The US has won the medal count at an Olympic Winter Games only once, at the Lake Placid 1932 Olympic Winter Games, where they collected six gold, four silver and two bronze for a total of 12 medals.
