Jack Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.), a member of the men's U.S. Olympic Hockey Team, went to great lengths to ensure that he could participate in Friday's Opening Ceremony at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games. A member of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, he played in his team's 3-2 home loss to Edmonton, then boarded a private charter jet to fly from Los Angeles to Bellingham, Wash., at 6 a.m. Friday. He continued his journey by car with his parents and brother, arriving in time for a brief media opportunity before preparing for the Opening Ceremony. Right after the Ceremony, he'll reverse the process to return to the Kings for their 7:30 p.m. game Saturday against the Colorado Avalanche.

Upon his arrival in Vancouver, Johnson said the meaning of being part of the Olympic Winter Games began to become tangible for him. He added that the investment to pull together logistics of the trip was substantial, but worth every bit of it.
