U.S. Olympic Committee outlines media details for 100 Day Countdown to the 2018 Olympic Winter Games on Nov. 1

Colorado Springs, Colo. – The United States Olympic Committee today released further information on media opportunities around the 100 Day Countdown for credentialed journalists who have registered to attend the event, taking place Nov. 1 in New York City’s Times Square.

Team USA WinterFest presented by HERSHEY’S will be in Duffy Square (46th St. & 7th Ave.), bringing the excitement of the PyeongChang Games to Team USA fans throughout the day.

Media Credential Pickup

To register for media credentials, visit TeamUSA.org/100DaysMedia. The media registration desk for credential pickup will be in the lobby at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel New York City (1568 Broadway). Pickup hours:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 31: noon-7 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 1: 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

Press Conference & Media Hour

The event will begin with a press conference from 1-1:30 p.m. and a media hour from 1:30-2:30 p.m. for media who have registered for credentials. More than 40 Team USA athletes will be on hand for the 1:00 pm press conference, including an athlete panel featuring Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn (alpine skiing), Olympic silver medalist Gus Kenworthy (freestyle skiing), two-time Paralympic medalist Oksana Masters (Nordic skiing), two-time Olympic medalist Elana Meyers-Taylor (bobsled), and Olympic bronze medalist Ashley Wagner (figure skating).

The press conference will also include a Team USA photo opp, special guests and a team announcement. Media access to the venue will open at approximately 11 a.m. Media will need to show their credential and a photo ID, and will go through a security checkpoint, so please leave enough time to get through and get positioned. Media riser space is limited and those with cameras are suggested to arrive early. Space is first-come, first-served. Media questions will not be taken during the press conference.

At 1:30 p.m., media will have a full hour to interview the athletes during standing roundtable interviews spread throughout the footprint. No athlete is guaranteed to be available for one-on-one interviews though the USOC will do its best to accommodate requests. Sport demos during the media hour will include freestyle skiing tricks on trampolines from 1:45-2:00 p.m. and street curling from 2:00-2:15 p.m.

Event Media Opportunities

The 100 Day Countdown will continue from 3-8 p.m. in Times Square. Some athletes, though not all, will be available for media interviews during this time, but availability will be limited. If media have a specific athlete(s) they wish to speak to, they should plan to conduct those interviews during the media hour. During the public event, media will be able to capture still images and b-roll of athletes and fans attending the event. Also, since the event will be open to the general public, noise levels will be higher and space will be more limited.

During the event, fan activities will include the HERSHEY’S S’moresmobile, the Team USA Social Truck and the Curling Challenge both presented by OREO, a virtual-reality experience, interactive fan elements, athlete meet and greets, Team USA giveaways, sponsor engagement and live musical performances from Grammy award winning artist Darius Rucker and America’s Got Talent season 11 winner Grace VanderWaal.

Live Broadcast

For the first time ever, fans at home can join the celebration by watching Team USA WinterFest presented by HERSHEY’S “The 100 Days Out Special” on the Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA from 7-8 p.m. ET on Nov. 1. The hour-long special – hosted by NBC’s Jimmy Roberts alongside Carolyn Manno – will feature highlights and interviews throughout the day and will include the live musical performances.
