USATT Hires Richard Finn as National Media and Marketing Consultant

USATT HIRES RICHARD FINN AS NATIONAL MEDIA AND MARKETING CONSULTANT

January 7, 2015 (Colorado Springs, CO) - Recently named USATT CEO Gordon Kaye announced the hiring of long-time sports media strategist Richard Finn as national media and marketing consultant. Finn will  be responsible for assisting the organization’s efforts in building its brand and properties with a focus on media and marketing opportunities. 

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to have someone of Richard’s caliber join our team,” commented Kaye. “His wealth of experience and extensive contacts in the industry will be invaluable as we continue to develop the sport of table tennis in the United States. We are at a key juncture in our growth, and I am confident that Richard brings the expertise to elevate our organization to new heights.” 

Most recently Finn was the Director of Media Relations and Sports Strategy at New York Road Runners and New York City Marathon, where he was an integral part of the senior leadership team through an unprecedented decade of growth for the sport, the organization, and the race.  Finn, a former freelance sports writer, has also served in similar positions at some of the world’s biggest sports properties, including the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup soccer tournament and the 1998 Goodwill Games. 

An accomplished junior and collegiate tennis player and still active in the game, Finn brings his own experience of being passionate about a sport to joining the USATT team in helping create added value and new playing opportunities for its members.  

“Much of my career has been devoted to helping sports and properties like the 1999 Women’s World Cup tournament and the New York City Marathon grow to reach bigger audiences and participation levels, “ said Finn. “Working with Gordon and his team gives me a new exciting opportunity to help build the sport of table tennis.” 

“I am very excited that Richard will be bringing his broad range of national media experience to help USA Table Tennis reach our full mass media potential,” added Sean O’Neill, Director of Communications and member of the 1988 and 1992 US Olympic Table Tennis teams. “USATT has a great number of stories to tell and having Richard on board will facilitate their sharing to a much wider audience.”    

Organized under the United States Olympic Committee as the National Governing Body for the sport of table tennis in the United States, USA Table Tennis is a 9,000 member organization that promotes the culture of table tennis by creating opportunities for athletes and coaches of all backgrounds to participate and advance in the sport through clubs, events, and education. 

Our membership is comprised of table tennis players, coaches, and volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, as well as enthusiasts and volunteers. Members can get involved through more than 250 clubs and over 350 tournaments across the nation annually. 

USA Table Tennis is also a member of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), and is responsible for selecting and training teams for international competitions, including the Pan American and Olympic Games.
