The 2015 Pan American Games were held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, from July 10-26 and featured 36 Pan Am-recognized summer sports. The Pan American Games are the world’s third-largest international multi-sport Games, surpassed in size and scope only by the Olympic Games and Asian Games. The first Pan American Games were held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1951.

Two weeks later, Toronto hosted the 2015 Parapan American Games from Aug. 7-15. The nine days of competition featured 15 Parapan Am summer sports. The inaugural Parapan American Games were held in Mexico City, Mexico, in 1999.

Both the Pan and Parapan Am Games are held every four years for the athletes of the 41 PASO member nations, in the year preceding the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
