American Para table tennis and wheelchair rugby athletes got an early start to the Parapan American Games Lima 2019, competing before the Opening Ceremony.

Para Table Tennis
Kicking off the first competition of the Games were Team USA’s 14 Para table tennis athletes. Leading the team is four-time Paralympian and three-time Paralympic medalist Tahl Leibovitz, who is undefeated in his first three matches. Also undefeated are Ian Seidenfield (3-0) and Jenson Van Emburgh (2-0). Competition will continue through Aug. 27.

Wheelchair Rugby
The U.S. wheelchair rugby team kicked of the Parapan American Games with an impressive 60-16 victory over Chile. Leading the team were Paralympians Joe Delagrave and Josh Wheeler with 14 tries each. Paralympic medalists Chuch Aoki and Eric Newby also helped Team USA to their first win. Aoki finished the game with 12 tries and 3 steals, and Newby with 13 tries. Team USA will continue their quest to the podium tomorrow versus Argentina at 8 a.m CT.  Read more.
