Table Tennis Preview
Representing Team USA in table tennis at the Pan American Games Lima 2019 are athletes Kanak Jha, Nikhil Kumar, Lily Zhang, Nicholas Tio, Yue “Jennifer” Wu and Amy Wang.

Tio earned a spot to the Pan American Games due to his May 2019 adult world ranking, his consistent international results over the previous twelve months and his performance in the 2018 Pan American Championships in Santiago, Chile, through which the U.S. qualified for the Pan American Games.

Wu is the highest-ranked American woman seeded in the world top 50, was second to Zhang at the Pan American Games Trial, went further than any other U.S. athlete in the 2019 world championships in Budapest, Hungary, and has a consistent and very strong record of international results.

Wang is the second-ranked junior in the world. Her recent international credentials include gold and silver medals at the French Junior and Cadet Open, silver at the 2018 Pan American Junior Championships in Santa Domingo and a strong world championships performance including a near-upset of the world’s No. 10-ranked woman.

Kumar won the Pan American Games Trial and Jha won the men’s singles gold in Santiago.

Wu’s participation will allow her to defend the gold medal she won in women’s singles at the 2015 Pan American Games, and she and Zhang will also defend Team USA’s women’s team gold to which they each contributed last time.
