Softball Preview
Since making its debut on the Pan American Games program in 1979, softball has been a long-time favorite with the U.S. Women's National Team claiming the gold medal eight times while the U.S. Men’s National Team has finished runner-up in all but one Pan American Games appearance. The Pan American Games are held every four years and marks the only multi-sport event that USA Softball MNT participates in internationally, while the WNT is set to return to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Team USA has been consistent at the Pan American Games, claiming seven silver medals dating from 1979-2003, while falling just shy of the podium with a fourth-place finish in 2015. The MNT has an overall Pan American Games record of 62-19.

The USA Softball WNT has dominated the Pan American Games, winning nine of the 10 gold medals and two silvers. Having won 92-of-96 games for a winning percentage of .958, the U.S. will look to reclaim gold at the Pan American Games following a 2-4 upset at the hands of host country Canada in 2015.

With softball returning to Tokyo 2020, the WNT punched its ticket at the 2018 World Baseball Softball Confederation Women’s World Championship. Therefore, the team’s performance in Lima does not have any implications for Tokyo qualification.
