Roller Sports Preview
In 2015, Team USA experienced a breakout year at the Pan American Games, claiming two silver medals and one bronze in figure and speedskating. This year, they look to build upon that success in Lima, Peru.

Five of the nation’s best roller sports athletes will be jockeying for podium positions at the 2019 Pan American Games. John Burchfield and Ashley Clifford will compete for Team USA in figure skating events, while Jonathan Blair, Herbie Harbison and Kelsey Helman will compete in speedskating events.

Pan American Games veteran Burchfield is looking to continue his competitive excellence on the international stage. He claimed the silver medal in figure skating at the 2015 Pan American Games after placing fourth in the same event in 2011. This year, Burchfield hopes to take the final step to the top of the podium.

Clifford claimed her spot on the Pan American Games team with a victory at the America’s Cup competition in Orlando, Florida. An experienced skater on the international stage, she is also a 26-time national champion in figure skating.

Blair is an accomplished speedskater and five-time national team member. He has claimed more than 10 national titles in his career.

Harbison is a six-time national team member, and he won a silver medal in junior road relay at the 2016 world championships. A formidable two-sport athlete, he also competes in ice speedskating.

As the top-ranked female speedskater in the country, Helman has earned more than 100 national titles and placements in her career. She has been a national team member for nine consecutive years.

The two Team USA figure skaters qualified for the Pan American Games with their victories at the 2019 Pan American Championships in Kissimmee, Florida. The three speedskaters earned their tickets to Lima following their placements at the 2019 USA Track and Road National Championships in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
