Cross-Country Skiing (2 bronze)
Team USA athletes clinched two podium spots today, taking home bronze in the women’s and men’s individual events.
On the women’s side, Kendall Kramer clinched third with a time of 14:36.3, followed closely by teammate Sydney Palmer-Leger, who finished fourth with a time of 14:43.3. Fellow Team USA athlete Nina Seemann finished 35th.
On the men’s side, Will Koch nabbed a podium spot as well, finishing third with a time of 27:29.5. Teammate Brian Bushey finished 13th with a time of 28:12.6, while U.S. athlete Kai Mittlesteadt finished 48th with a time of 30:38.0.
Freestyle Skiing (1 silver)
After securing their spot in the finals following two qualification runs, Team USA’s Hunter Carey and Connor Ladd competed in the men’s halfpipe finals. Carey opened the finals with a powerful run for 84 points, putting him in second place. He improved upon his score, earning 86 points in the second run to hold him through the third run for the silver medal. Teammate Ladd finished fifth with a score of 73.33.
In women’s big air qualifications, Jenna Riccomini and Riley Jacobs qualified for Wednesday’s finals with scores of 77.66 and 63.00, respectively.
In the ski-snowboardcross mixed team event, the relay that consists of one female snowboarder, female skier, male snowboarder, male skier. Team USA’s Theo McLemore and Madeline Lochte-Bono teamed up with Slovakia’s Kayla Anna Lozakova and Jakub Valek. In the pre-heats, the team finished second with a four-person time of 11:05, while they finished fourth in the quarterfinals with a time of 11:36. The team did not advance to the semifinals.
Ice Hockey
Team USA took on Canada in the semifinals of the Winter Youth Olympic Games. After a scoreless first period, Team USA’s Frank Nazar found the back of the net on a penalty shot, bringing the score to 1-0. Just over two minutes later, Isaac Howard scored on a power play to put the U.S. up 2-0. In the third period, Canada scored a goal to make it 2-1, but Team USA held on to win the game. The team will face Russia in the gold-medal game on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 3 p.m. local time.
Snowboard
Following two qualification runs, U.S. athletes Jack Coyne and Kolman LeCroy advanced to the finals of the men’s halfpipe event. In the finals, Coyne earned 76 points for fifth place, and LeCroy placed 10th with 42.33 points.
Following successful runs in the women’s big air qualifications, Courtney Rummel and Ty Schnorrbusch advanced to Wednesday’s finals.
