Picabo Street was one of the most successful downhill skiers of the 1990s. The Triumph, Idaho, native grew up as the lone girl among eight children, and began racing at the Sun Valley Ski Resort when she was 6 years old. Street became a national junior champion and first joined the national squad at 17 years old, where she won the silver medal at the world alpine ski championships before winning her first Olympic medal with silver in the downhill at the Olympic Winter Games Lillehammer 1994. She was also the first non-European to win the downhill title during her successful 1994-95 season, where she notched six downhill victories in nine races on the world-cup circuit. Despite suffering a knee injury requiring surgery, Street won the super-G event at the Olympic Winter Games Nagano 1998. She then took more than two years to recover from another leg injury before competing at the Salt Lake City Games 2002 Games. After her retirement following the Salt Lake City Games, Street worked for a number of companies as a commercial spokesperson.
