Kevan Gosper is an Australian silver medalist, two-time Olympian and International Olympic Committee member. The Newcastle, New South Wales, native was recruited to Michigan State University at age of 17 by legendary coach Karl Schlademan. He became one of the best quarter-milers, winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in Vancouver in 1954. Gosper won three Big Ten track and field titles in 1955 before making the Australian Olympic team in 1956. He won the silver medal in the 4x400-meter relay at the Olympic Games Melbourne 1956 and made his second Olympic team in 1960. Gosper led a successful professional career following his athletic endeavors, serving as chief executive officer of Shell Oil in Australia, as well as chief commissioner for the city of Melbourne. He was a member of the International Olympic Committee from 1977 through 2013 and served as the vice president of the IOC for two four-year terms. Gosper also published an autobiography entitled, “An Olympic Life.” Gosper was inducted as part of the Olive Branch Award.
