Bobby Joe Morrow was a three-time gold medalist sprinter at the Olympic Games Melbourne 1956. Raised on a farm in San Benito, Texas, Morrow attended Abilene Christian University and was a sprinter on the track team. His competitive racing career skyrocketed in 1956 when he won two sprint events at the national college championships and earned his second-straight Amature Athletic Union 100-yard title. Morrow went on to win three gold medals later that year at the Olympic Games Melbourne 1956 in the 100-meter dash, the 200 dash and as the anchor in the 4x100. It was the most dominating performance by an American sprinter at an Olympic Games since Jesse Owens in 1936, and Morrow was named Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated. He retired from competitive racing in 1960 and moved back to San Benito.
