Archery         
Catalina GNoriega  was victorious in the 1/8 elimination round as she topped Himani Himani of India with a 6-4 win, before falling to Elia Espcanales of Spain in the quarterfinal round, 7-3.

Basketball      
Led by Hailey Van Lith’s seven points, the women’s 3x3 team remained undefeated (5-0) with an 18-14 quarterfinal win over the Netherlands. The victory earned the team a spot in the semifinals, where it will face China on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Beach Volleyball

The U.S. women’s team of Lindsey Sparks and Devon Newberry lost 2-0 to Italy’s Claudia Scampoli and Nicol Bertozzi (21-16, 21-19). Team USA will play for bronze against Frida Berntsen and Emilie Olimstad of Norway on Wednesday morning.

 

Boxing

In the women’s flyweight division, Heaven Garcia lost to Italy’s Martina La Piana in a 4-1 decision.


Canoe

Zoe Hein placed eighth in the preliminary round of the women’s canoe obstacle slalom qualification heats to advance to the last 16, where she defeated Blessing Toboh Amusar of Nigeria by nine seconds to advance. In the quarterfinals, Hein fell to Zola Charlotte Marion Lewandowski of Germany. In the men’s kayak obstacle slalom qualification heats, Robert Healy placed seventh to earn a spot in the repechages, but did not advance. MORE.

 

Diving

After earning 12th in the men’s 10-meter platform preliminary, Jack Matthews climbed two spots to finish 10th in the final with a score of 438.25.

Track and Field        
Skylar Ciccolini threw a personal best in the women’s javelin throw to finish sixth on the second day of competition. In a track and field format unique to the Youth Olympic Games, all athletes compete in two stages of competition and the results are combined to determine the medalists. Ciccolini’s mark of 55.07-meters was added to her first stage result of 49.90 to finish the competition in seventh place overall.
