Archery (1 bronze)*
Trenton Cowles earned the bronze medal in the mixed international team event, competing with Quinn Reddig of Namibia. They went up against Rebecca Jones of New Zealand and Chihchun Tang of Chinese Taipei in the bronze medal match and came out on top 5-3. MORE.

Gymnastics (1 gold)
Brandon Briones earned gold in the men’s vault final with a score of 14.099, besting the second-place finisher by .116 points. Earlier in the day, Briones finished just .034 points out of medal position in the men’s rings final, earning fourth. In the women’s trampoline final, Alyssa Oh finished eighth. MORE.

Wrestling (1 gold)
Robert Howard won the men’s freestyle 55 kg. weight class, besting Hernan David Almendra of host country Argentina for the gold medal. In the men’s freestyle 65 kg. weight class, Carson Manville fell to Pakistan’s Inayat Ullah in the bronze-medal match to finish fourth. MORE.

Track and Field (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze)
Team USA’s athletes grabbed a trio of medals on the track. In a track and field format unique to the Youth Olympic Games, all athletes compete in two stages of competition and the results are combined to determine the medalists. Grace Stark won the first gold medal in track and field as she stormed to the lead in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a stage two time of 12.83. Athing Mu won silver in the women’s 800 with her second stage time of 2:05.23. Nicholas Ramey took bronze in the men’s 400 with a second stage time of 47.60. Also competing for Team USA, Meghan Hunter finished 10th in the 400 and Charles "Omar" McBride finished ninth in the high jump with a second stage clearance of 2.03. MORE.

Beach Volleyball
On the men’s side, duo John Schwengel and Tim Brewster defeated Switzerland’s Timon Gysin and Nathan Broch in two sets (21-16, 21-18). With this victory in the round of 16, they will advance to the quarterfinals. On the women’s side, the U.S. pair of Lindsey Sparks and Devon Newberry also clinched their spot in the quarterfinals with a two-set victory (21-19, 21-12) against Lisbeth Allcca Merino and Medalyn Mendoza of Peru. The two U.S. teams will compete again on Monday, Oct. 15.

In the first preliminary round of men’s light welter (64 kg.), Otha Jones fell to Hassan Azim of Great Britain. In the first preliminary round of women’s feather (54-57 kg.), Roma Martinez fell to Dearbhla Rooney of Ireland.

Jack Matthews finished ninth in the men's 3-meter springboard final, after coming in 12th in the preliminary round earlier in the day.  MORE. 

The U.S. team of Akshay Bhatia and Lucy Li ended the day eight under par, finishing round two of the mixed team foursome stroke play in third. The duo will compete for a medal in the final round on Monday, Oct. 15. 

The U.S. men tied Japan, 17-17, in their fourth game of rugby sevens pool play. Earlier in the day, the team fell to South Africa, 19-12. MORE.

Cameron Maramenides finished just off the podium in the men's kiteboarding - IKA Twin Tip event, finishing fourth in his final race to earn fourth overall. MORE.

Table Tennis
Competing in the mixed international team event round of 16, Amy Wang and Kanak Jha fell to Jing Ning and KhingHang Yu of Azerbaijan with a 1-2 record over the three matches.
