USOPC Velodrome
History
A velodrome is a banked oval that hosts bicycle racing. There are currently 16 velodromes across the U.S. including the one here in Colorado Springs.
Built in 1983 in preparation for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 1984, the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center Velodrome is the official training venue for U.S. Olympic and Paralympic cycling teams. The Velodrome is a 333.3-meter banked cement cycling track and is one of the fastest velodromes in the world with many world records set here over the years.
The USOPC Velodrome has hosted dozens of National and International events since its inception. In the fall of 2015, the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee and USA Cycling jointly funded the addition of an air-supported dome that is in place for year-round training.
Community Programs
The Velodrome is located in Colorado Springs Memorial Park and represents a unique partnership between the City of Colorado Springs and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee. The USOPC maintains and operates the venue, but it is part of the park system. As such, the USOPC also provides “community programming” at the facility.
The community programs include:
Learn the Velodrome – A three-hour class where you learn the basics of how to ride a track bike, navigate the velodrome safely and basic etiquette and rules of the velodrome.
Training Sessions – Training sessions are four-hour blocks of training time. Riders must be track certified to participate.
Racing – USA Cycling races will take place on Saturdays. A full calendar and info is available.
REGISTRATION FOR ALL EVENTS/TRAINING WILL BE ONLINE
NO DAY-OF REGISTRATION AND NO ON SITE REGISTRATION
