Dr. David Steel
Dr. David Steel is Executive Vice President in the Global Communications Group of Samsung Electronics. From 2008 to 2014, he was head of Corporate Affairs for Samsung Electronics North America, responsible for corporate strategy, communications, marketing, and government relations across the U.S. and Canada.
He started working at Samsung in 1997 in the Global Strategy Group, where he managed strategy and business development projects for several different Samsung companies. In 2002, he became the first non-Korean appointed as a corporate officer in Samsung. From 2002 to 2007, he served as Vice President and head of marketing for the Digital Media Business, where he established the role of marketing within the $25 billion consumer electronics business. In 2007, he moved to the Mobile Communications division, where he oversaw marketing strategy for the world’s leader in mobile phones.
Prior to Samsung, he worked at McKinsey & Co. and Argonne National Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy. Dr. Steel earned a PhD in Physics from MIT, an MBA with Honors from the University of Chicago, and a BA in Physics from Oxford University. At MIT, he was awarded the Karl Taylor Compton Prize, the highest award for achievements in citizenship. He is a member of the Paralympic Advisory Committee of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee and a past board member of the Korean American Community Foundation.
