Tokyo 2020 Program

  • The Tokyo 2020 Friends and Family Program, called Athletes’ Support Program, is now live and available online.
  • Museums included - If you opt to participate in this program, the participating members will receive tickets for museums owned by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Friends and Family will have the opportunity to experience Tokyo’s art and culture through museums such as the Museums Contemporary Art, Metropolitan Art, Photographic Art, Teien-Art, and the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

Eligibility

  • The Tokyo 2020 Athletes’ Support Program can be used by up to two persons (family or friends) per athlete, as well as one accompanying child (under 12 years old)
  • Friends and family may apply for both programs
  • In order to access the reservation site, you will need the associated athlete’s Olympic/Paralympic Accreditation Number and full name, as listed on his/her passport
    • Please contact your NGB/HPMO’s Friends and Family Lead to obtain your athlete’s accreditation number.

Program #1 – Hotels

  • Reservation window: March 10 – Sept. 10, 2020
  • Variety of accommodation and room types, including accessible rooms
  • Room rates and cancellation policies vary
  • Reservation process:
    1. Visit Tokyo 2020 Athlete Friends and Family Support Program website
    2. Answer all survey questions and enter your associated athlete’s sport, name and accreditation number
    3. Make your reservation through accommodation booking websites, operated by Tokyo 2020 partners
    4. View the listed Tokyo 2020 partner accommodation reservation services
    5. Receive a confirmation email, including Tokyo Metropolitan museum ticket information

Program #2 – University Cultural Exchange

  • Tokyo 2020 has coordinated an opportunity for Friends and Family to stay at university facilities for two to nine nights
  • Most university accommodation facilities are located about an hour away from the Olympic and Paralympic competition venues in central Tokyo
  • There are no accessible rooms included in the university accommodation program
  • Two university students will meet and accompany Friends and Family from and back to Narita (NRT) and Haneda (HND) International airports and provide a tour of the university facilities upon arrival between the hours of 7 a.m. (07:00) and 10 p.m. (22:00)
    • Upon request, the university students can assist for an additional day, up to an 8-hour period, to help Friends and Family with transportation to competition venues or sightseeing. A cost of ¥2,000 (approximately USD $18) applies and friends and family will also cover expenses for their student guides, such as admission fees for sights, meals, and transportation.
  • Price depends on the length of stay – four nights is ¥45,000 (approximately USD $410)
    • Fees include insurance (both for the university student and friends and family), administration, and limited transportation
  • Reservation process:
    1. Visit Tokyo 2020 Athlete Friends and Family Support Program website
    2. Answer all survey questions and enter your associated athlete’s sport, name, and accreditation number
    3. Receive an email with university availability information and reservation request form
    4. Reply to Tokyo 2020 email with your reservation request form
    5. Tokyo 2020 will verify availability with the university and students
    6. University student will be matched with the Athlete Friends and Family
    7. Athlete Friends and Family confirms acceptance of match and submits payment for the reservation online
      • This is the stage where you will see the location of your proposed university location
  • Cancellation policy
    • The program participation fee is non-refundable once payment has been made.
      • This applies even if the associated athlete does not qualify for the Olympic/Paralympic Games
    • If the reservation has been cancelled or modified more than 60 days prior to arrival, friends and family will be eligible for a refund of ¥24,000 (approximately $218), which covers the transportation support fee for the program.
    • All changes should be confirmed by email.
