Aaron Pico (Whittier, Calif./Team USA) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

The 17-year-old Pico turned in a dominant performance in defeating Russian Alibeggadzhi Emeev by a technical fall in the USA-Russia dual meet on Saturday in Clifton Park, N.Y

Pico, making his debut on the Senior level, prevailed by an 8-0 score in the freestyle match at 66 kg/145.5 lbs.

2013 has been a memorable year for Pico, who captured a gold medal at the FILA Cadet World Championships this past summer.

Pico won three freestyle national titles this year – the FILA Cadet Nationals in Akron, Ohio, the FILA Junior Nationals in Las Vegas and the Junior Nationals in Fargo, N.D.
