U.S. Men Sweep Series from Bulgaria
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 24, 2014) – The U.S. Men’s National Team will leave Bulgaria with a 2-0 record in the FIVB World League after defeating the European side for a second night, 19-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-17 on Saturday at the Palace of Culture and Sports in Varna.

The U.S. Men, ranked No. 4 in the world, will have next weekend off before hosting No. 2 Russia on June 6-7 at the Pyramid in Long Beach, Calif.
“Two very difficult matches in this challenging environment and good for us to have this second consecutive win,” U.S. Head Coach John Speraw (Los Angeles) said. “We didn’t have much training together and hope that we can clean the things for the future.”
The U.S. Men led Bulgaria in kills (46-39), blocks (14-6) and aces (5-2) while the Europeans led in digs (35-24). Bulgaria scored 42 points on U.S. errors while Team USA took advantage of 31 miscues by Bulgaria.
“The USA played better in attack and service than us,” Bulgaria Head Coach Camillo Placi said. “Coming to this match, we knew it would be harder than the first match. The key moment of this match was obviously the 3rd set that we could have won but it didn’t happen unfortunately. USA were better organized in defense, it has always been the case historically.”
Matt Anderson (West Seneca, N.Y.), playing at opposite for the U.S. Men, led all scorers with 20 points on a match-high 18 points and two blocks. Outside hitter Reid Priddy (Richmond, Va.), who left the match in the fourth set after an apparent injury, added 13 points on three kills, four blocks and a match-high three aces.
Outside hitter Taylor Sander (Honolulu) scored 12 points on 10 attacks, one block and one ace. Middle blocker David Lee (Alpine, Calif.) scored 11 points on seven kills and four blocks. Middle blocker Max Holt (Cincinnati) contributed seven points on four kills, two blocks and one ace.
The U.S. Men held Bulgaria opposite Tsvetan Sokolov to 15 points on 13 attacks and two blocks.
