Kiraly Gives Thoughts on Grand Champions Cup

NAGOYA, Japan (Nov. 14, 2013) – U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team Head Coach Karch Kiraly and the other five coaches representing the six teams in the FIVB Women's World Grand Champions Cup participated in the off-day press conference on Thursday as the teams transferred from Nagoya to Tokyo for the final three days of competition.

The U.S. is one of four teams at 1-1 in the tournament after a 3-0 loss to top-ranked Brazil and a 3-1 win over No. 3 Japan in Nagoya. Dominican Republic, Russia and Japan are all 1-1 in the tournament, while Brazil is the lone undefeated team at 2-0. Thailand is 0-2 after the second day of round-robin competition.

The Americans challenge Russia on Nov. 15 at 4:10 p.m. local time (11:10 p.m. PT on Thursday). Team USA defeated Russia 3-1 on the opening day of the 2013 FIVB World Grand Prix. The U.S. plays Thailand at 12:10 p.m. on Nov. 16 (7:10 p.m. PT on Friday) in the first meeting of the two teams in 2013. The Americans conclude the World Grand Champions Cup on Nov. 17 at 12:10 p.m. (7:10 p.m. PT on Saturday) against Dominican Republic. The U.S. is 2-0 against Dominican Republic in 2013, with both victories coming in gold-medal matches (Pan American Cup and NORCECA Continental Championship).
