U.S. Women's A2 Program Begins Competition

WNT A2 Roster and Schedule

DALLAS (June 29, 2013) - Team Gold and Team Red won five-set matches to open the U.S. Women's National Volleyball A2 Program tournament being held in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships at the Dallas Convention Center.

Team Gold is led by Head Coach Andy Banachowski and Assistant Coach Linda Hampton. They faced Team Blue, led by Ruth Nelson and Mike Gawlik, in their first pool-play match and earned the 25-21, 25-23, 21-25, 19-25, 15-10 victory.

Nicole Walch (Stuart, Fla.) led Team Gold with 23 points on 19 kills and a match-high four blocks. Taylor Simpson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added 14 points on 12 kills and two blocks. Morgan Odale (Star, Idaho) tallied 12 points on 10 kills, one ace and one block. Alexis Mathews (Detroit, Mich.) chalked up nine points on six kills, two aces and one block. Elizabeth Koberstein (Madison, Wis.) added six points on two aces, two kills and two blocks while Litara Keil (Long Beach, Calif.) added six points of her own with six kills. Mackenzie Bigbee (Wiliamsburg, Iowa) contributed three points on three kills to Team Gold's victory, while Veronica Lewis added a point of her own on a block.

Ashley Wittman (Shakopee, Minn.) led the way for Team Blue with her 17 points on 15 kills, one ace and one block. Annie Drews (Elkhart, Ind.) added 14 points of her own with nine kills, a match-high three aces and two blocks. Victoria Hurtt (Kansas City, Mo.) added 12 points on 11 kills and one block, while Ariana Williams (Riverside, Calif.) earned eight points on six kills and two blocks. Kimberly Dahl (Pleasant Grove, Utah) chalked up eight points of her own on six kills, one block and one ace. Adreene Elliott (Winston-Salem, N.C.) earned five points on two kills and a team-high three blocks. Mackenzie Dagostino (Tampa, Fla.) added five points on two kills, two blocks and one ace, and Simone Antwi (Fairfax Station, Va.) added four kills and one ace. Chantale Riddle (Roswell, N.M.) added three points on three kills to the losing effort.

The match was close across the board. Both teams tallied 12 blocks. Team Gold held the slight two-kill advantage over Team Blue (60-58), while Team Blue chalked up one more ace than Team Gold (7-6).

Team Red is led by Head Coach Bill Neville and Assistant Coach Ashley Allen. They opened play in Dallas with a 27-25, 18-25, 18-25, 25-23, 15-12 victory over Team White, which is led by Head Coach Mike Hebert and Assistant Coach Marci Sanders.

Kathleen Luft (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) set the pace for Team Red with her 19 points off seventeen kills and two blocks. Moneshia Simmons (Buford, Ga.) and Chelsey Schofield (Provo, Utah) both added ten points on ten swings. Kierra Jones (Fishers, Ind.) tallied nine points on six kills and three blocks, while Tai Manu-Olevao added nine points of her own on eight kills and one ace. Casey Hinger (Fullerton, Calif.) also added nine points off five blocks (match high) and four kills. Courtney Windham (Houston, Texas) added five points on four blocks and one kill. Hannah Johnson (Longview, Wash.) contributed two points on one kill and one block. Mita Uiato (Long Beach, Calif.) tallied two points on one ace and one kill. Kori Moster (Cincinatti, Ohio) and Valerie Nichol (Normal, Ill.) scored on an ace and a kill respectively to round-out Team Red's winning effort.

Team White was led by Lauren Wicinski (Geneva, Ill.), who tallied 31 points on 29 kills, one bock and one ace. Whitney Billings (Helena, Ala.) added 11 points on nine kills and two blocks. Brooke Mattingly (St. Henry, Ohio) scored ten points on seven kills and two blocks. DeLaina Sarden (Laurenceville, Ga.) added ten points of her own on seven kills, two blocks and one ace. Ellen Chapman (Glenview, Ill.) scored seven points on four kills, two blocks and one ace. Courtney Thomas (DeKalb, Ill.) and Kaitlyn Leary (Parma, Ohio) both chalked up five points on five kills. Hannah Kvitle (Quincy, Ill.) scored one point on one kill.

Team Red led the match with 15 team blocks compared to Team White's 10 team blocks. Team White tallied eight more kills than Team Red (67-59). Both teams served three aces during the five-set battle.

Team Red is slated to face Team Blue at 3 p.m. CT on Court 13 at the Dallas Convention Center, while Team Gold will take on Team White at 5:30 p.m. CT, also on Court 13.
