Ross, who grew up in Carlsbad and played for the Coast Volleyball Club while being homeschooled through the Carlsbad Seaside Academy, most recently won the 2012 World University Championships with partner Emily Day (Torrance, Calif.).

Ross finished her first season of sand volleyball at Pepperdine as the champion of the 2012 AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championships along with Caitlin Racich and also led the Waves to the team title. The pair also won the 2012 USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge. In 2010, Ross became the first player to win gold at both the FIVB beach junior world championships (with Tara Roenicke) and the youth world championships (with Jane Croson) in the same year.

In Chula Vista, Ross will team with Morgan Beck (Coto de Caza, Calif.), who played indoor volleyball for the University of California.

Day will also compete in Chula Vista with her regular partner, Heather Hughes (Fallbrook, Calif.). In 2011, the pair won the silver medal at the World University Games and placed fourth at the Pan American Games.

Other U.S. women’s teams scheduled to compete in Chula Vista are Michelle Moriarty (Houston, Texas) and Kaitlin Sather (Santa Rosa, Calif.), Stevi Robinson and Eve Ettinger along with Kirby Burnham (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Sara Hughes (Costa Mesa, Calif.).

On the men’s side, the team of Jeff Carlson (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Tony Ciarelli (Huntington Beach, Calif.), which won the silver medal at the 2008 FIVB youth world championship and also played together on the men’s volleyball team at the University of Southern California, has reunited.

Jesse Rambis (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) will partner with Avery Drost (Hawthorne, Calif.) in Chula Vista.

Other U.S. men’s teams registered to compete are Will Montgomery (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Tri Bourne (Aiea, Hawaii), Alex Jones (Northridge, Calif.) and Kyle Stevenson (Santa Monica, Calif.), Jesse Rambis (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Avery Drost (Hawthorne, Calif.) along with Adam Cabbage (Rio Rancho, N.M.) and Parker Kalmbach (Newport Beach, Calif.).

Among the international teams scheduled to compete are Mexico’s Bibiana Candelas and Martha Revuelta and Puerto Rico’s Yarleen Santiago and Yamileska Yantin.

Candelas and partner Mayra Garcia won the silver medal at the 2011 Pan American Games and have also won eight NORCECA beach titles since 2008.

Santiago and Yantin won the bronze medal at the 2011 Pan America Games and have also won eight tournaments on the NORCECA beach tour since 2008 along with capturing five silver medals and three bronze.

Among the international men’s teams, Mexico’s Juan Virgen will team with Lombardo Ontiveros. The team won the NORCECA tournament in May in Toluca, Mexico. Virgen has also had success on the tour with Aldo MIramontes while Ontiveros has won with brother Ulises Ontiveros.

Teams from Canada, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Saint Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos and Virgin Islands are also registered to compete.
