THE BIG BLURB
Sixteen years separate Bourne and his current beach partner John Hyden, and sometimes that leaves the 25-year-old from Hawaii a little clueless to pop culture references his elders use, but that doesn’t stop him from soaking up the wealth of knowledge they have gained over the years “My generation is a little spoiled I think, but I’m just trying to be grateful and learn everything he (John Hyden) has to teach me,” Bourne said in a Daily Breeze interview. “I’m from a little rock in the Pacific. I’m not a big movie guy, but John is a huge movie guy. He knows all the bands, all the movie quotes and I’m just left in the dust. He and Nick (Lucena) are constantly doing movie quotes and I have no idea what they’re talking about.”

THE QUOTE
“I made the switch to beach, because I grew up in Hawaii and I’m used to being at the beach everyday,” Bourne said about his switch to the sand in 2012. “I actually learned how to play volleyball on the beach, it kind of just makes me feel at home. I had a long time playing indoor, so I think it’s about that time for me. I always kind of wondered how I would match up with these guys, once I finally got to play them. So, I can put that to the test. My expectations are high, because I’ve grown up watching the AVP and it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do. It doesn’t matter what the courts or the event looks like, because I’ll come out and play and enjoy myself.”
