Personal
Van Ryn began playing team handball in August 2012 with the Georgia Handball Club and Chicago Inter Handball Club after seeing the sport on television during the 2012 London Olympic Games. She was invited to join the Senior Women's National Team in January 2013 after participating in a USATH training camp in Lake Placid, N.Y.

At Central Florida, Van Ryn was a four year letterwoman in softball, where she won two conference championships. In 2008, Van Ryn was the recipient of the Dr. Richard E. Lapchick Award (for Athletic, Academic, and Community Excellence); 2008 UCF Softball Iron Athlete Award, 2008 Founder's Scholar Award (Top 1% in graduating class); and 3-Time Conference All-Academic Team.

As a high school athlete, Van Ryn was a four year letterman in softball (Two State Runner-Up finishes, Three Regional Championships) and basketball (two state championships, three regional championships), a three year letterman in Soccer, and also lettered in track and field (Discus Regional Champion, 7th in State).
