Clarification on Open Team Trials for 16 Year Olds

July 17, 2014, 10:46 a.m. (ET)

USA Taekwondo erroneously published information regarding the participation of athletes in the Senior Division at the 2014 National Championships. We originally published that athletes who turn 17 years old by December 31, 2014, could participate in the Senior Division at the recently completed 2014 National Championships.

USA Taekwondo is therefore allowing for an Open Team Trials for athletes who will turn 17 years old by December 31, 2015, to provide an opportunity for those athletes to compete for a berth at the 2015 Senior National Team Trials. Tentatively, Senior National Team Trials are scheduled to take place in May 2015. The specific dates and the site are yet to be determined.

The Open Team Trials for athletes who will be 17 years old by December 31, 2015, will take place on the same day, prior to the start of the Senior Team Trials. The one winner of that Open Team Trials will be added to the Senior National Team Trials Pool as the lowest seed.

An announcement will be posted to this website regarding the date and place of the 2015 National Team Trials as soon as that information is finalized.
