SLOW PITCH PROGRAM HISTORY
History of the Border Battle & Slow Pitch Showdown
Created in 2009, the inaugural Border Battle slow pitch competition was held at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City where Team USA defeated Canada 30 to 23. An instant success, the event has continued to grow seven years later with additional sponsors and multiple locations, including the 2014 event in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.
In 2010, Canada evened the series in an epic 30-29 dramatic victory. The USA men rebounded in 2011 with a dominating 25-3 performance and won in 2012 (32-21) and in 2013 (25-10).With an 18-9 victory in 2014 in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, Team USA extended its lead to 5-1 in the Border Battle series.
The USA Futures Team is now in its fourth season after being established in 2012 to compete in the inaugural Slow Pitch Showdown against the U.S. Men's Slow Pitch National Team. The Futures claimed the first Slow Pitch Showdown in a tightly contested match up when they defeated Team USA 38-37 in Oklahoma City. The U.S. National team responded strong in 2013 with a 32-16 run-rule and in 2014 with a 34-19 victory in Canada. Continuing the tradition of dominating at the Border Battle, Team USA captured their sixth Border Battle win in 2015 with a 22-7 win over Canada in Midland, Mich., and in 2016 the U.S. defeated Canada 27-8.
Both the Border Battle and Slow Pitch Showdown are an opportunity for the top slow pitch athletes in the country to showcase their talents while exposing USA Softball Slow Pitch and promoting participation.
