USA Boxing Junior Olympic and Prep National Championships

USA Boxing has added the Prep National Championships to the long-standing Junior Olympic National Championships for the first time in 2015. The joint event will be contested June 9-13 in Charleston, West Virginia. For all the information about the event, see below.

Headgear:
Headgear will be provided for all junior Olympic division participants.  They will be without cheek protectors.

All USA Boxing approved headgear (with or without cheek protectors) will be allowed for the Prep divisions in the tournament (pee wee, bantam, Intermediate).

Uniform: Red and Blue uniforms are recommended but not mandatory all age divisions. All shorts must follow USAB guidelines and must have a contrasting belt line and also no gladiator shorts, tassels, or sequins.

Pregnancy Tests: All female athletes will be required to take a pregnancy test per West Virginia state regulations. This will likely be done as athletes check in at onsite registration.

General Weigh In and Physicals: The general weigh-in for junior Olympic division will begin at 4 p.m., at the Charleston Civic Center.    The 15-16 year olds are the only group participating in the general weigh in and physical on this day.  ALL OTHER AGE GROUPS WILL ONLY WEIGH IN ON THE DAYS THAT THEY BOX. 

Tournament draw: The pee wee, bantam and intermediate division athletes (8-14 year olds) will begin the tournament draw at 5pm on June 8 at the Charleston Civic Center.  The junior Olympic division draw will begin once their general weigh in ends.  

On site registration: This will take place at the Charleston Civic Center on Sunday from 2 p.m.- 8 p.m. and again on Monday from 10:00 a.m.- 4 p.m.  All completed athlete paperwork must be turned in by then in order to compete in the event. 

Hand wraps: Athletes will be allowed to wear either tape & gauze or valpeau

  • PeeWee Division: 8-10-years-old
    • Athletes must have a minimum of 5 bouts to compete prior to registering for National Tournament
    • No regional qualifying process.  First 16 registrants per weight class in the division will be accepted.
    • Registration for this division will open April 1st.
    • There will be a standalone 8 year old division.
    • 8 year olds must be 8 by the day of on-site registration (June 8)
    • 9 year olds will go by date of birth on the day of on-site registration (June 8)
    • 10 year olds will go by year of birth (Must be born in 2005)
    • 50lb weight class will be the lowest contested weight class.  Additional weight classes will be contested in 5lb increments
  • Bantam Division: 11-12-years-old
    • Athletes must have a minimum of 5 bouts to compete at the LBC level.
    • Will follow the traditional JO qualifying process
    • Will go by year of birth (Must be born in either 2003 or 2004)
    • 60 lb weight class will be the lowest contested weight class.  Additional weight classes will be contested in 5lb increments
  • Intermediate Division: 13-14-years-old
    • Athletes must have a minimum of 5 bouts to compete at the LBC level
    • Will follow the traditional JO qualifying process
    • Will go by year of birth (Must be born in either 2001 or 2002)
    • 60lb weight class will be the lowest contested weight class.  Additional weight classes will be contested in 5lb increments
