Easton and Shenk Award Winners Announced

Aug. 05, 2014, 12 a.m. (ET)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Archery has announced the winners of the Easton and Shenk Awards – coveted prizes that reward consistency and performance across USA Archery’s three National Championship events.

The Shenk Award, named for Clayton Shenk, former National Archery Association President, is awarded to the male and female recurve archer who earned the highest cumulative scores at the U.S. National Indoor Championships, U.S. National Field Championships and U.S. National Target Championships.

For 2014, those archers are Heather Koehl (Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin) and Jake Kaminski (Gainesville, Florida). Both archers have Olympic connections – and Rio 2016 aspirations. Koehl was the U.S. Olympic Team Alternate in 2012, and Kaminski came away from the London Olympic Games with a silver medal. However, winning this award also shows both athletes’ prowess in field and indoor target archery, as well as outdoor target shooting.

The compound archers who receive the best scores at the U.S. National Indoor Championships, U.S. National Field Championships and U.S. National Target Championships earn the Easton Award, given to the top performing male and female archer who meet this criteria. This award is named after Jim Easton, a past President of World Archery and lifetime supporter of the sport.

Dave Cousins (Standish, Maine), a 31 time national champion and 10 time world champion, has earned the honor for the compound men’s category, while Jamie Van Natta – who currently holds seven world records and has earned 26 gold medals at international events – achieved the Easton Award for the compound women. Both archers are standouts across the disciplines of indoor target, field and outdoor target archery.

All four prize winners will receive handmade bowls crafted by International Judge Tom Green. USA Archery extends its sincere congratulations to Van Natta, Cousins, Koehl and Kaminski.
