U.S. Paralympic Team set for three-game series vs. Canada
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The 2014 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team will take on Canada in a three-game series Thursday through Saturday (Jan. 9-11) at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail, N.C. The games will serve as Team USA's final international competition prior to the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in March.
"We're excited to be returning to Extreme Ice Center and North Carolina for this series against Canada," said Dan Brennan, general manager of the U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team. "Not only is this an opportunity for the fans to see the best sled hockey players in the world, but also a chance to watch some fantastic competition as we prepare for the Paralympics."
The series is the second major sled competition of the season. The U.S. previously competed in the 2013 World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Toronto, Ontario, in December. Team USA has won four of the last six major international events, including the 2009 International Paralympic Committee World Sledge Hockey Championship in Ostrava, Czech Republic; the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia; the 2012 IPC World Sledge Hockey Championship in Hamar, Norway; and the 2012 World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Calgary, Alberta.
Seven players that were members of the gold medal-winning 2010 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team highlight the roster, including goaltender Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.); defensemen Taylor Chace (Hampton Falls, N.H.), Nikko Landeros (Johnstown, Colo.) and Andy Yohe (Bettendorf, Iowa); and forwards Taylor Lipsett (Plano, Texas), Josh Pauls (Green Brook, N.J.) and Greg Shaw (Merritt Island, Fla.).
