By Linda Jager | March 23, 2014, 12 a.m. (ET)

OSLO, Norway (March 23, 2014) –  The 2013-14 World Cup season came to an end today in Oslo with the mass start events. Tim Burke (Paul Smiths, NY) had the top finish for Team USA, a ninth place in the men’s 15-kilometer (41:50.7/+1). France’s Martin Fourcade won the race in 40:59.9 with one penalty. Dominik Landertinger (AUT) finished second (41:06.0/+0), and Jakov Fak (SLO) was third (41:32.8/+2). Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, NY) finished 28th (43:56.2/+4). Extended results from the men’s mass start are available here

"This was a nice way for me to end the season today," said Burke. "It was fun to be back in the hunt for a podium finish. I was right there until the last lap, but I simply ran out of gas.

This was a very challenging season for me. I prepared to the best of my ability but some things were out of my control, which led to a tough season. I will use this disappointment to motivate me for next season. On a positive note, it was great to see the progression of the team this season. I think it says a lot that we had three different athletes on the podium this year. I'm excited to see what the future brings for our team," Burke added.

Susan Dunklee (Barton, VT) finished 18th in the 12.5km mass start with a time of 41:36.2/+6. “In the mass start, I struggled with the shooting and had one particularly poor standing stage,” said Dunklee. “But, I finished with a clean stage and strong fight on the last loop. I had a good run of things at the end of the season and will be headed into the summer with a lot of good motivation."

Anastasiya Kuzmina (SVK) won today’s race with a time of 39:44.8/+4. Teja Gregorin (SLO) was second (39:48.6/+2), and Marie Dorin Habert (FRA) finished third (39:53.1/+3). Extended results from the women’s mass start are available here.
