New White House Office of Olympic, Paralympic and Youth Sports opens 

This permanent White House office will promote the values of the Olympic Movement and encourage increased youth participation in athletics.  The primary function of the Office will be to enhance awareness of the Olympic Movement through promotion of its fundamental principles at the federal level.

April Holmes inspires minority students with Olympic ideals 

Holmes, who won a gold medal in the 100-meter dash at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, was the featured motivational speaker at the U.S. Olympic Committee's (USOC) Finding Leaders Among Minorities Everywhere (F.L.A.M.E.) program. During her presentation, Holmes emphasized several of the Olympic values --- displaying universal respect, pushing for peace, and creating a standard of friendship, solidarity and fair play.

Jr. Olympic Skills finalists showcase talents on, off field 

The finalists, ages 8 to 13, competed in skills competitions in basketball, soccer, tennis and track and field. These young athletes, who came from all over the United States and Puerto Rico, advanced to the finals by winning their age and gender category at one of 130 regional events.

More than 1.6 million competitors participated in the program, which emphasizes fair and friendly play and promotes an active lifestyle.
