COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 23, 2009) - Bill Barnum (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) and Kathy DeBoer (Lexington, Ky.) will take their new positions on the USA Volleyball Board of Directors when it meets on Oct. 30 at Holyoke, Mass.

Barnum, who replaces the independent director position previously held by Steve Simpson, is a general partner of Brentwood Associates Private Equity, a Los Angeles-based private equity investment firm with approximately $1 billion under management. Brentwood specializes in growth-oriented investing, purchasing controlling interests in middle market consumer product companies.

DeBoer, who fills the spot of John Dunning as the coach director, has served as the executive director of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) since February 2006. Under her leadership, the AVCA membership has grown by 36 percent and its annual convention attendance has increased by nearly 30 percent.

Pepperdine to Induct Ctvrtlik, Wilde into Hall of Fame

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 23, 2009) - U.S. Olympic volleyball gold medalist Bob Ctvrtlik and Olympic coach Rod Wilde will be inducted into Pepperdine University's Hall of Fame in a ceremony on Sunday (Oct. 25).

The ceremony will be held at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills, Calif. A reception will be held at 5 p.m., with dinner and the awards presentation at 6 p.m.

Ctvrtlik played one season with the Waves (1985) following two season at Long Beach State. He led the Waves, under coach Marv Dunphy, to their second NCAA championship. He was named the National Player of the Year and the MVP of the NCAA Tournament. He was also named an All-American first team and All-SCIVA first team. He led the Waves in kills (424), digs (103) and service aces (27) that season. Ctvrtlik went on to play in three Olympic Games, winning the gold medal in 1988 and the bronze in 1992.

Wilde played setter for four seasons (1976-79) at Pepperdine. He was named to the All-American first team three times. His teams shared two SCIVA titles and went to the NCAA Championships three times He made the NCAA All-Tournament Team in 1978 when the Waves won their first national championship. He was a four-time all-conference selection (twice on the first team). Wilde was a member of the U.S. National Team and was an alternate on the 1984 Olympic squad. He served as an assistant coach for the U.S. teams at the 1996 and 2000 Olympics. He has worked as the men's head coach at UC San Diego, the women's head coach at Drake and an assistant women's coach at Wisconsin.

USAV Adds Collegiate Resource Page to Web Site

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 23, 2009) - USA Volleyball has announced that it has added a collegiate resources page to its web site.

The page gives information on playing volleyball at the collegiate level, including links for the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation (NCVF), the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) among others.

"We just want to get this information out there so that players can start to learn more about the processes and opportunities at the collegiate level," said Jeff Mosher, USA Volleyball coordinator for boys' and men's development.
